Believe it or not, Scotland does have some warm, sunny days over summer, making August the perfect time to explore Edinburgh’s great outdoors.
Walk up Calton Hill, sunbathe in Princes Street Gardens or enjoy an ice cream on Portobello Beach. And don’t forget to bring a picnic with you - you can find our top ten favourite picnic spots here.

1. Take in a show at the Fringe Festival. Running from 4th - 28th of August, Edinburgh Fringe is world-renowned for its comedy, arts and culture.

3. Enjoy our many art galleries. From Renaissance oil paintings to contemporary sculptures, inspire your creativity and take in a world of culture right here in the city.
4. Live like a local and visit one of the markets that are open throughout the summer. Nourish your soul with fresh produce from the Edinburgh Farmer’s Market (every Sat) and peruse artworks from local creators at the West End Fair.
5. Experience a live performance at the Edinburgh International Festival from the world’s finest in dance, opera, music and theatre.
6. Grab a drink on Rose Street. Known for its many bars and pubs, Rose Street is the place to be if you want to grab a quick cocktail or sit in the sun with a pint.

Is August a good time to visit Edinburgh?
August is a great time to visit Edinburgh; the hustle and bustle feel electric, the sun is arguably at its hottest; it’s good vibes all around.
That being said, we’re definitely super-biased and would recommend you visit Edinburgh any time of the year; winter, spring, summer and autumn all bring a distinct aura to the city that has to be seen to be believed.
