Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hello! My name is Zeena Shah (@heartzeena), I’m an Art Director, Stylist and Designer based in Hackney in East London. I trained as a Printed Textile Designer at Chelsea School of Art so colour, pattern and a love of textiles are a true passion of mine. I find a great joy in putting colours together and enjoy sharing my love of colour to inspire others and spread some colour positivity.

What inspired the scarf concept and how was the design process?

I wanted to inject some colour into our Winter wardrobes. As the days get shorter the light starts to get lower and it can get a little gloomy. Wearing colour and living a more colourful life can have such a positive impact on your mood and wellbeing. I wanted to spread some joy in my design, and as someone that lives for colourful OOTDs, it really was where we began.

As a textile designer it was so lovely to get back into the design process and create! I start with a moodboard of inspiration and images that really reflect the concept I’m trying to communicate. Then I’ll sketch up my designs whittling them down to my favourite colourways and weaves before sharing with the team at the Tartan Blanket Co. for their expert weaving know-how. It was so much fun and the team realised my design so perfectly - I am over the moon and hope everyone loves it as much as I do.

What does this scarf mean to you & what do you hope it comes to mean to others?

It means the world to me, to have been able to collaborate with such a wonderful brand making such special and sustainable products is a real honour. I hope each and every scarf brings all of the joy after a year of such uncertainty and sadness we all really need a boost. I’m a firm believer ‘it’s the little things in life’ and by wearing a pop of colour this winter I know every single one will bring a boost of colour positivity to our everyday.

Any styling advice for this scarf?

The joy of this scarf is that it really is a statement piece. It will bring life to your plain black, grey, navy coats this season. Have fun with it, try a bright pink beret or a lilac beanie. Don’t be afraid to pattern clash, the bright bold colours are geared up for layering prints of all types. Stripes and checks anyone? Don’t forget about under your coat, the Zeena Scarf looks fabulous with a pair of bright pink tights! -

And the biggest question of all- how do you dress for winter without just looking like a multi-layered blob?

Haha! It’s all about your layers, choose wisely! I’m a big fan of Uniqlo’s heat tech range, stylish and colourful long sleeves and polo necks that are super warm layered with knitted vests and cardigans. Add a quilted base layer for warmth - this is my trick under a fabulous coat and will keep you toasty without the bulk!

How It Went

As part of Our Pledge, for the whole month of October, our 1% for humanitarian charities was donated to The Trussell Trust, as chosen by Zeena. The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks and provides emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
